Amanda Quintilio
Registered Psychologist (7871)
My name is Amanda Quintilio. I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the Mamowichitowin Community Wellness Program. I live and work in the beautiful community of Grande Cache, Alberta. I have lived in Grande Cache for 23 years and have worked with the Hinton Friendship Centre as a therapist for 8 years. I typically use a Narrative therapy approach with my clients as I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the key to successful healing. Our program specializes in treating trauma, specifically intergenerational trauma, and sexual abuse, although I am comfortable working with any specific need that a client brings into therapy.
I enjoy empowering people to embrace the full potential they have inside of them and I am patient in this process, recognizing that for many people, this takes a lot of time and healing before people can develop this relationship with themselves. I am honored to sit with and hold space for people who just need to be heard. I learn a lot from the people I get to work for. In our program we use the Medicine Wheel as a model for healing. I appreciate this approach because it emphasizes a balanced and holistic way of healing. I also use more traditional modalities of therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing (EMDR) techniques.
In my spare time I enjoy fishing, especially in the lakes and rivers around Edson, Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache. I also like to hike, read and take saunas. I received my BA in Anthropology from the University of Alberta and my MSc. in Psychology from Walden University. I enjoy listening to podcasts, specifically about Contemplative Science and the importance of mindfulness and meditation in healing and knowing ourselves. Some of my favorite podcast mentors include, Michael Singer, Eckhart Tolle and Rick Hanson.
