Jennifer Russell, M. Sc.

Registered Psychologist

I started at the Mamowichihitowin Program in 2011 as a student. Following this I completed my masters degree in marriage, family, and child counselling. I receive great passion for working with people who have been victims or perpetrators (or both) of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and/or intergenerational trauma. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and elders. In particular, I enjoy utilizing play therapy with children and helping them strengthen and heal the relationships to family. I also feel passionate about helping people who have been impacted by colonial trauma. My work is also influenced by supporting people to develop a healthy relationship to oneself in all four areas of the medicine wheel. In doing so I also practice a relational and systemic lens in working with people and families. I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach effective for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). My practice also utilizes teachings from the areas of indigenous practices, yoga, attachment theory, play therapy, emotionally-focused couples therapy, cognitive-behavioural, internal family systems, and mindfulness practices.
