Katherine O'Toole, MSc

Registered Psychotherapist

I am a registered CCPA/ACTA approved therapist. I came from the UK to Canada ten years ago, where I began working as a mental health therapist in Grande Prairie AB. My love of nature, mountains and wildlife brought me to Hinton AB, where I currently reside with my husband and three rescue cats.

My interest in trauma-based therapy led me to the Mamowichihitowin Program where I commenced working as a trauma therapist in the towns of Edson and Hinton AB. This is an extremely important and unique program that works with individuals emotional, physical and spiritual needs and focuses on aspects of intergenerational trauma transmission.

Prior to relocating to Canada, I completed my Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB) and worked in school and private settings as well as in a unique hospital unit, specializing in women suffering from Puerperal Psychosis. I then completed my training to become a registered Psychiatric Nurse, focusing my career within the field of severe and enduring mental health conditions, both in the in-patient hospital and community-based settings.

Following this, I completed my Master of Science in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT) and commenced working as a therapist for the National Health Service (NHS) in an outpatient setting for complex mental health and trauma related conditions.

My goal as a therapist is the hope that suffering of future generations can be ended through trauma therapy and individuals and families can go forward on to a positive and fulfilling future life. To date I have been employed in this program for nearly seven years and enjoy and have experience of working with a variety of clients of all ages, backgrounds and cultures.

I believe that positive change can occur if clients are given the safety to be able to experience love and compassion towards themselves and others.

I utilize a number of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Somatic approaches, Mindfulness, Family Systems, Play Therapy and EMDR.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Mamowichihitowin program for additional information and credentials.
